We have come along way since vinyl and cassettes where everything was actually on tape or on CD and you had to buy the physical matter to possess the music.
These ‘physical’ formats, however, slowly started being replaced by downloaded music available from a number of online music stores such as lime wire or i-tunes. The difference in format which is now digital and no longer actual matter, means that downloading from the internet is easy, cheap and sometimes free.
There is no denying that less space is taken up through downloading than buying chunky CD cases which will just be stored away.
It is easily accessible from various tune downloading sites.
The internet with broadband makes the job simple and lightning fast so that you can have your music in seconds.

This is a non-linear process meaning we can listen to anything we want, when we want it, we no longer have to flick through lots of songs on a CD to try and find our favourite track.
The cost of shipping or packaging is destroyed because everything is sent via the internet.
Although, the only downside would be for people who really like to collect the actually CDs becaise one daythey will be unable to do so.
Older generations may be an example of this audience, because they generally have a hard time letting go of the past. However, teenagers and some adults have taken the swap from physical to digital very well and are creating play lists and downloading. this may not just be because they can, but because the media has shown the advantages of going 'digital' such as HDcinema and sites like kiss where you can listen to radio. the digital times have made life so much easier in everyway.
- personalisation- allows people to personalize their playlists and choose whatever they want
- less space used- everythings digitial and so not physical
- cheap or free downloading
- non-linear
